Just the thing to put in your backpack. Not heavy but perfectly usable for making kindling, tent pegs, or whatever chopping jobs you have around the campsite.
Completely made in 420 stainless steel with an ultra sharp hollow grind. You can shave your arm with this little one. Unlike a normal axe with a “V” grind this one is very easy to sharpen and has immediate bite into whatever you chop.
Has a sheath with a belt loop and velcro retaining straps but I would use it on a belt as it doesn’t appear strong enough.
Axe has a very secure rubber grip with lanyard hole.
Axe: 12 inches long (30cm) by 4 inches across the head (10cm). 3.9mm thick.
Total weight: 337 grams.
What makes these blades superb is the steel used. Many blades are made with inferior grades of stainless steel. “Stainless” is a large group of steel alloys – many entirely unsuitable for blade use.
420 is capable of attaining great hardness, sharpness and wear resistance of the stainless alloys. Its very high carbon content is responsible for these characteristics along with superior heat treatment. Of course this is also more expensive – you get what you pay for.
